Tamara Lich, Lawfare and a Restoration of Good Law
Tamara Lich announced today that she has launched a lawsuit “against the Ottawa Police, the Crown prosecutor, and others for malicious prosecution & negligent investigation. She has done this because “this isn’t just about me; it’s about stopping this kind of abuse so no Canadian ever faces it again.” You can find her announcement here.
We are a sleepy people here in Canada. While the COVID lockdowns have woken some people up, many are still sleepy.
Ever since COVID lockdowns we have seen lawfare launched on those who opposed such draconian measures. Lawfare is the use of legal systems, institutions, and principles as a tool (or weapon) in conflict—whether military, political, or strategic—to achieve objectives that might otherwise require traditional force. In the States, those who love freedom have won a variety of battles. In Canada, we have seen the relentless prosecution of various individuals, such as Tamara Lich, in the courts.
To win such battles, the Left depends on a sleepy and an apathetic people who do not care about their own freedoms, much less the freedoms of others.
This is why I wrote this article on Tamara in September of 2023 here. At the time, I said it matters for 2 main reasons:
(1) First, as Christians all confess, the truth matters, both when Christians are brought into the courts of the land as well as when those who are not Christian are brought into the courts of the land.
(2) Second, as Christians we care about the harms that unjust laws cause.
Thus, it is with gratitude that I have watched the unfolding of Tamara’s defence of herself in the courts. Every person who defends themselves, is by way of the system defending others who stand for similar things. When you stand up to a bully government, you ensure that boundaries are imposed on that government. Many were divested of the ability to defend themselves in various settings. Many were unable to, due to time and circumstance or even just the head space to spend years in court. Tamara is doing something that many Canadians did not and do not have the courage or ability to do.
As we watch the trajectory of the nation of Canada, it is clear that it is a nation under the judgment of God. Nevertheless, to acknowledge such a thing is not to write off the need to act in obedience to God. As Christians we must be doers. As doers, we must fear God and keep His commandments, for that is man’s all. No unfaithfulness should be justified. It may be that God in His mercy relents from His judgment on Canada and uses the faithful as a blessing in a dark time.
In all of this, we must never underestimate the potency of what is happening in the courtrooms of the nations.
Are our courts being used to uphold righteousness and justice or are they being used to perpetuate abuse on citizens, families, churches? We have seen the jailing of at least 6 or more pastors since 2020, and the fining and threatening of many more.
I think we all know the answer. The unborn and the ill are not protected from murder. Marriage is not protected, with no-fault divorce laws, and the abuses that these laws perpetrate especially on men. While some protections remain, free men and women are increasingly no longer protected from state-sponsored medical experimentation and tyranny.
This is what Mrs. Lich is fighting. She is fighting medical experimentation and tyranny.
Thus, Tamara’s fight is our fight.
We should desire to see law & order upheld in our nation, and freedom where God grants freedom and liberty to men. We must uphold justice and tell truth. Those who do not yet believe and are crushed under the burden of what might be Biblically regarded as injustice should see among Christians a people who love and delight in truth and justice.
When we see people wrongfully prosecuted and investigated, we should not only condemn such actions, but also press back against such actions.
Given a faithful & repentant people, standing as a bulwark of the truth in our nation, maybe God will have mercy upon our nation and restore our courts to truth, beauty and goodness again.
In Christ,
Pastor Nathan Zekveld

I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Tamara at a book signing in Toronto. She is not only humble, and nice, she’s courageous. I’ve been in the Ontario police holding cells - they’re cruel and inhumane. They tried to use “lawfare” to break her spirit, but her spirit is far stronger than they anticipated.
Thank you for speaking out about this openly and clearly, pastor Nathan, and for supporting Tamara Lich's courageous and noble stance and unwavering conviction.
