It is my intent to provide a review of Alex Epstein’s book “the Moral Case for Fossil Fuels.” While I am not a scientist or a geologist, I do want to analyze Epstein’s moral argument from a theological perspective. It is within the scope of the Biblical worldview, to try to discern certain moral or ethical issues that swirl around new issues that arise in our day. We must do that with Artificial Intelligence (for example) and we must do so as well with questions surrounding the issue of fossil fuels.
For that reason it is important that as I set out on this review that I should acknowledge where Christian ethicists have developed categories to determine the morality of an ethical question. These categories would include that which is: (1) Commanded; (2) Forbidden; (3) Permitted. I’ll get more into this at the end of my review. In the meantime, I want to first take a close look at Epstein’s argument. For some initial background, please check out my initial post on some general principles for energy here.
